The night the chili cookoff hits the Parkway
The official Gatlinburg CVB events calendar lists the Winter Festival and Chili Cookoff on Thursday, November 12, 2026, 5 to 9 p.m. on the Parkway (also posted on the Pigeon Forge CVB event page). The same Gatlinburg calendar lists Winter Magic beginning November 5. Earlier 2025 announcements said November 6. We follow the current CVB listing. After the lights are on, they stay through February 2027. For tasting wristbands, location, and parking notes, use the dedicated Gatlinburg Chili Cookoff 2026 page. Chili, vendors, and what is free
Walking the Parkway is free. Tasting wristbands are 10 dollars (ages 5+, sold on site only). The Pigeon Forge CVB listing says the event is presented by Bush's Chili Beans and includes a Christmas tree farm, Santa photos, carnival games, a giant inflatable snow globe, ice skating, and carolers. Wristband supply is first come, first served. We do not sell wristbands. The current official pages do not publish a ceremonial light-flip minute, so we do not invent one.
Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas opens November 6 (official Dollywood dates: November 6, 2026 through January 3, 2027). That is a Pigeon Forge full day and a different date from the November 12 chili cookoff. Do not stack chili night with a Dollywood close if you want both.
How we stay for cookoff night
Our cabins are about 8 minutes from the Parkway when it is behaving. On November 12 it will not be behaving after 4 p.m. Drive down early, park once, walk. Come home to a fireplace. Serenity if you want quiet after the crowd. Funky Bear Lodge if the group wants a celebration night. Thanksgiving week is later (November 26). November 12 weekend is one of the four scarcest weekends we see (with Pancake Week, July 4, and peak October).

- Parkway closed during the event. Plan a park-and-walk.
- Coat, gloves, comfortable shoes. You will stand still for the 8 p.m. flip.
- Eat chili as dinner or eat at the cabin first. $10 is tasting, not a planned meal for a hungry 12-year-old.
- Bring a small billfold. Wristbands are on site.

Plan on a closed or heavily restricted Parkway during the 5 to 9 p.m. window. Park and walk, or time a trolley. Do not expect a quick drive-through at 7:45 p.m.
Is this the same as the Fantasy of Lights Parade?
No. The chili cookoff is November 12. The 51st Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade is Friday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. Both are free to watch. Different nights. See Gatlinburg Christmas Parade 2026.
