Quick Facts
When is the Gatlinburg Christmas Parade in 2026?
The official Gatlinburg CVB parade page lists the 51st Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade on Friday, December 4, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. EST. The Pigeon Forge CVB event page lists the same start and a 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. window. It is the first Friday in December, which is the usual timing. The 2026 date is announced.
What the Fantasy of Lights parade is
This is Gatlinburg's downtown Christmas parade: lighted floats, marching bands, large balloons, and Santa, set against Winter Magic lights on the Parkway. The official parade page calls it 51 years of the tradition and notes that the 2026 Grand Marshal is still TBD. Sidewalk viewing is free. Optional bleacher seats are sold by the city.
For the rest of the holiday season (Winter Magic from November 5, Dollywood Christmas, Christmas week vs early December), use our Christmas in Gatlinburg 2026 guide. The chili cookoff is a different night: Thursday, November 12. Details are on Gatlinburg Chili Cookoff 2026 and Winter Magic Kickoff 2026.
Official route and road closures
The official Gatlinburg CVB route:
- Starts at Baskins Creek Bypass
- Continues to Traffic Light 3
- Turns south onto the Parkway
- Ends at Traffic Light 10
Official Friday afternoon closures from the same page:
- 4:30 p.m. Outbound lanes of East Parkway shift to one lane for float staging.
- About 6:50 p.m. The inbound lane closes.
- About 7:00 p.m. All traffic along the parade route shuts down.
The city's parade page says police and EMS staff the route. The official CVB parade guide says the parade lasts around an hour, rain or shine. We do not invent a later end time beyond the 9:00 p.m. window posted by the Pigeon Forge CVB.
What it costs
Watching from the sidewalk is free. Arrive early. The official page says to secure a spot along the route, and the CVB parade guide says sidewalks fill quickly. A blanket or lawn chair is the usual setup.
Optional Grandstand VIP seating is 50 dollars per person at two locations listed by the city:
- TV Zone at Traffic Light 3, near the start of the route
- Gatlinburg Convention Center, mid-route
Each grandstand ticket includes bleacher-style seating and a commemorative Santa hat. Seating begins at 5:30 p.m. Children under 5 may sit on an adult's lap without a ticket. Strollers are not permitted in the grandstand, and the city says stroller parking is not provided. We do not sell grandstand tickets. Buy them from the official Gatlinburg parade page when the city has them on sale.
Parking and getting downtown
The official parade page tells you to arrive early. It does not publish a named reserved lot or a parade-night parking price. The city's parking page points to public and private lots and garages downtown. The official CVB parade guide says Gatlinburg has more than 4,000 parking spots and recommends parking early, then using the free Gatlinburg Trolley. Hotel guests who have on-site parking are told to use it and ride.
From our ridge: downtown parking on parade night is usually gone by late afternoon. Leave the cabin by mid-afternoon. Do not treat the Parkway as a shortcut after 5 p.m. If you can time a trolley, that is cleaner than circling for a space at 6:30.
How we stay for parade weekend
Parade weekend (December 4 to 6) is a different trip than Christmas week. You get the lights and the one-night spectacle without the December 24 grocery panic. Our five cabins sit together at Phoenix Landing, about 8 minutes from the Parkway when it is behaving. Serenity is the quiet pick after the crowd. Funky Bear Lodge is the celebration pick. Million Dollar View and Dream Big sleep 8. Big Sky Lodge and Funky Bear Lodge sleep 12.
Direct-book here and you are usually 10 to 15 percent under Airbnb or Vrbo for the same dates. Start at book direct, check live availability, or the Christmas cabin page. Groups that need two cabins should contact us.

Check December availabilityPractical tips
- Leave the cabin by mid-afternoon on December 4. Outbound East Parkway is already down to one lane at 4:30 p.m.
- Dress in layers. December nights on the Parkway are cold, and you will stand still.
- Sidewalk viewers: bring a blanket or chair. Grandstand guests: no strollers.
- The official guide says wear a Santa hat if you want. That is optional, not a rule.
- Do not stack the parade with a full Dollywood day. Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas runs November 6 through January 3, 2027. Save it for Saturday.
- The 2026 Grand Marshal is listed as TBD on the official parade page. We will not invent a name.
- No pets and no indoor smoking in any of our cabins. Check-in 4:00 p.m. Eastern. Checkout 10:00 a.m. Eastern.
