One fall calendar, not a pile of 404s

October is when people search "Gatlinburg fall events" and land on a month page that cannot hold every festival. This hub is the comprehensive 2026 lander. Dated events below match what we already verified on seasonal events and the October guide. Deep planning lives on the dedicated pages. Use this page to see the season in one pass, then book a cabin.

Last updated September 7, 2026. If a venue moves a date, we will stamp a new update. We do not invent peak-color days. NPS has no official 2026 forecast.

Peak foliage timing by elevation

Color walks downhill. That is the whole method.

The cabin-first version of this (drives, which deck to sit on) is fall color 2026. Weekly reports from NPS and visitmysmokies.com are worth a look the week you travel. They are reports, not a 2026 forecast published today.

Anakeesta Bear-Varian Fall Festival, August 28 to November 1, 2026

This is the Anakeesta fall festival, not Ober's Oktoberfest. Included with Anakeesta general admission at 576 Parkway (light #5). Tasting locations typically 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Bear Tasting Card about $22.99 for ages 21+ (six 8-oz pours, unused pours good through November 1 if you keep the card). Entertainment includes The Undead Heads, The Vampirettes, The Pretzel-Tones, Bear-Varian Bonanza Games, and Hans the stilt walker. Full hours, ticket notes, and cabin matchups: Anakeesta Bear-Varian 2026.

Ober Mountain Oktoberfest, October 2 to November 1, 2026

Different mountain. Ober's mountaintop biergarten is the Bavarian checkered-tablecloth version: Yee-Haw German beers, schnitzel, sausages, giant pretzels, apple strudel, stein-holding, live bands. Aerial tram from downtown is the easy way up. Free to enter the festival layer in the sense the mountain has its own ticket, then you pay for food and beer. Do not confuse this with Bear-Varian. If a search result says "Oktoberfest at Anakeesta," it means Bear-Varian.

Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair, October 8 to 28, 2026

51st year. Convention Center, traffic light #8. Daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 200 juried artisans. Live music at noon and 3 p.m. $12 adults. Ages 17 and under free with a paid adult. Easy add on a downtown day. Details and cabin pairings: Craftsmen's Fair October 2026.

Dollywood Harvest Festival and Great Pumpkin LumiNights

September 14 to October 31, 2026. Daytime harvest decor, Southern gospel, fall food. After dark, Great Pumpkin LumiNights on Wilderness Pass is included with park admission. Harvey's Boo Bash is separately ticketed October 16, 23, and 30 only (enter 6 p.m., exclusive 9 p.m. to midnight). Full cabin-first plan: Dollywood Harvest Festival 2026. Do not stack Harvest and Anakeesta on the same day unless you have a long stay and a high tolerance for parking.

Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival

September through November across Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville. Pumpkins, corn mazes, scarecrows, downtown decor. Free to wander. Individual attractions charge their own tickets. Think of it as the regional backdrop, not a single gate.

Halloween notes

Book the fall cabin before the leaf reports drop

October weekends are our second-busiest dates after July. Midweek is the same color with room to breathe.

Frequently asked questions about fall events in Gatlinburg

When do fall leaves peak in Gatlinburg in 2026?

NPS has no official 2026 peak-color forecast. Use elevation: high ridges (around 5,000 feet and up) often show first, roughly early to mid-October. Mid elevations follow around mid to late October. Gatlinburg and the valleys often peak late October into early November.

What fall events are happening in Gatlinburg in 2026?

Anakeesta Bear-Varian (August 28 to November 1), Ober Mountain Oktoberfest (October 2 to November 1), Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair fall edition (October 8 to 28), Dollywood Harvest Festival and Great Pumpkin LumiNights (September 14 to October 31), Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival (September through November), plus Halloween nights. Winter Magic starts November 6, after the main fall cluster.

Is Anakeesta Bear-Varian the same as Ober Oktoberfest?

No. Bear-Varian is Anakeesta's Bavarian-style fall festival at 576 Parkway (light #5), included with Anakeesta admission. Ober Mountain Oktoberfest is a separate mountaintop biergarten (October 2 to November 1) reached by aerial tram. Different mountain, different ticket.

When is the Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair in October 2026?

October 8 to 28, 2026, daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Convention Center (light #8). $12 adults. Ages 17 and under free with a paid adult. 51st year.

Is midweek better than a weekend for fall events?

Yes. October is the second-busiest month after July. Tuesday through Thursday is the window we recommend for the same color and festivals with less Parkway traffic.

How far ahead should I book a cabin for fall 2026?

Three to six months for October weekends. Peak foliage Saturdays (often the second and third weekends) can be gone by late spring. September shoulder weekends are the last calmer rates before October pricing.
